In the beginning of May, well, May 9th to be exact, Matt and I reached our first year wedding anniversary. To celebrate, we decided to do something special. So we booked a short weekend trip to Chicago. We both love Chicago and thought it was perfect timing since we had been wanting to get up there to visit with some friends.
The whole week prior to leaving the weather forecast was showing thunderstorms and we were a little bummed, but once we got up there the weather was beautiful. Lucky for us, because we had planned a few outdoor activities.
We started the weekend off by staying at a cute, swanky hotel called Hotel Felix, just a few blocks off Michigan Avenue.
As you can see, the rooms were quite small, but very stylish and modern. We stayed there for 2 nights and treated ourselves to a couple's massage and a wonderful anniversary dinner.
We then packed our bags and headed to Jill and Adam's apartment for the next couple days. They were awesome hosts and made me realize I really don't need a pound of sugar in my coffee. Thanks again for letting us crash on your couches!
Next, we all met up with Kelly and Jason and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at a Cubs game. The beer was great, we got to see Vince Vaugh sing the 7th Inning Stretch, and the Cubs won. Great day at the ballpark.
We ended up in Wrigleyville the rest of the evening. I even got into a batting cage for the first time in years, and I didn't do half bad. Kelly of course did great!
The next day started off with a walk over to the beach. Jill and Adam only live about 4 blocks away, lucky. So we grabbed some breakfast and coffee, and who did we run into? Well, just the one and only Ronnie Woo Woo.
This man is an icon at Cubs games. His claim to fame is shouting "Cubs Woo, Cubs Woo". I would compare him with either Weird Robert from K-State football games or the lemonade guy from T-Bones and Royals games. We even got a personal shout-out, "Matt Woo, Heather Woo". It was awesome.
Later that afternoon, Matt and I took one of the architectural boat tours that tell you all about the history of the buildings along the river. It was very interesting and a must-do for anyone who visits Chicago, which is funny considering I had never been on one and I've been to Chicago many times. Here are a couple of the hundreds of pictures that Matt took. We hardly take any pictures of ourselves, but we'll take thousands of random buildings.
Here is a picture of us back at home with the top tier of our cake. My parents must have done a wonderful job following the freezing directions because the cake was delicious. I even took the rest of it into work and my co-workers devored it. They thought it was pretty funny they were eating my 1-year old wedding cake. Regardless, it's finally out of the freezer.
The year absolutely flew by and I'm so thankful for such a wonderful and amazing husband.
