Lunch Crafts - #1

A couple weeks ago, a gal here at work sent out an email asking if there was any interest in doing some simple-yet-fun crafts during the lunch hour one day each week.  Um yes.  Not only do I enjoy crafts, I also enjoy getting away from my desk.  Count. Me. In.

She has a whole slew of ideas for each week.  We've already had 2 craft days, but I decided it would be more fun to split each craft up into separate posts and be able to explain how to re-create them yourselves.  I have PDF's with the directions and pictures that coordinate for each step, so if you ever see one you just have to make and want some more descriptive instructions, then let me know and I can surely email them to you.

Now, I don't have kids but who cares, really.  I had a blast and learned something I could do with future offspring, nieces, nephews, who knows!

The prep work had already been done for us due to the time constraint. These steps included cutting the elastic bands and sewing them together, and cutting all the tulle into strips.  All we had to do was knot the tulle onto the elastic band.  Easy pesy and oh so cute.

Directions:
1) Cut the elastic bands into 8 inch strips.  Sew the 2 ends together.
2) Cut the tulle into 6x1 inch strips.  Cut zig-zags on the ends (preferrably with zig-zag scissors).
3) Fold the tulle strip in half, wrap around the elastic band and pull the ends thru he loop. Pull tight, essentially creating a knot.  Repeat this step until you have completely filled the band.

And that's it!  This was really easy, but does take a little more time than expected.  Of course we didn't do any of the cutting or sewing, but just tying on the tulle takes awhile because you can fit a bunch of the tulle strips on the band.

Here is my finished product...Not too shabby!

  1. That's cute!! Love the craft idea at work. Those of us who sit at our desk all day long need a little break:)
