New Year...New Start

I love the start of a new year.  It's such a refreshing feeling and gives me a bright, cheery and new positive attitude.  I love the holidays, but they can be down-right exhausting.  Sigh.  Maybe that's just me thou.  So, I always look to the new year as a recharging and recovering time.

For many people, this is also a great time to make resolutions or goals for the upcoming year.  But I'm not much of a resolutions maker.  Mostly because I usually end up disappointing myself or just plain forget by February.  However, I felt the absolute need to make a few this year.  One purely to help save my sanity, and the others just ended up being throw onto the list because I thought it might be fun to actually challenge and "better" myself this year.

Drumroll please...here are my 2011 New Year's Resolutions.
  1. Stress Less.  This is the goal I HAVE to concentrate on the most.  I am one of those who literally stress about everything.  Work.  Money.  Life.  The reason for putting this on my list?  Absolute necessity to better my life.  My unnecessary high stress level was taking a toll on my body in many different ways.  One of my tactics in helping with this goal is to be more regular with my exercise routine.  I would add this as a goal in itself, but felt it would be better to lump these two together because I think they sort of go hand-in-hand.  We are on day 5 of the new year, and so far, I am definitely keeping my stress level in check and I can already feel the difference.  Let's hope I can keep it up!
  2. Save More $$$.  Honestly, this shouldn't even be a goal because we should be better with this.  But that is exactly why it's on the list. A friendly reminder to myself that we have lots of things planned for this year and we really need to beef up our savings account.
  3. Read More.  I wish I was better about reading.  I really do enjoy it, but I always find myself sitting in front of the TV watching pointless shows instead of being captivated by a great book.  And I have quite a few that I've really been wanting to dive into.
  4. Finish Small House Projects.  As you all know, I'm a home improvement junkie.  But with this, comes a long list of un-completed projects that I'm dying to tackle.  So once again, this is a little kick in my rear to get 'em going and finished before the spring arrives.
So there you have it!  My un-exciting list of goals for the year.

And I also wanted to give you all a mini re-cap of our holiday celebrations.  Don't want to bore you with little details, so this is pretty straight forward.  Plus, there aren't any pictures to accompany - sorry!

Christmas Eve
  • Matt actually didn't have to work - yay for small miracles!
  • We had Matt's dad, his 2 younger sisters, Tara and Scott over for lunch and presents.
  • Ended the night celebrating with Matt's mom, Tara and Scott.  Had delicious chili, opened presents and watched Rudolph while sipping on wine and eating cookies.
Christmas Day
  • Spent the morning and early afternoon at my parent's house.  My dad made a wonderful breakfast egg casserole. Ryan got a Kinect for his X-Box so part of the morning was spent showing off our awesome dance moves.  Sure wish I would have recorded Ryan's white-boy moves.  Very entertaining!
  • Headed over to my Aunt Kathy's house to celebrate with my mom's side of the family.  Always a good time with lots of people and tons of wonderful food.
  • Got to relax at our house that night and watch a movie.  What a great way to end such a beautiful, fun-filled day.
Day-After Christmas
  • Had my dad's side of the family over to our house for lunch.  Had fun watching the dogs run around, opening presents, eating some more good food, and seeing the Chiefs win!
  • Headed out to Nebraska Furniture Mart after the family left.  Had all intentions of just looking at bedroom furniture, but ended up leaving with a kitchen table and chairs as well.  Couldn't pass up the 33 months of no financing!  I'll have a separate post soon with pictures to show off our purchases.
New Year's Eve
  • Celebrated with close friend's at the Kutter's casa.  Munched on tons of snacks, drank too much wine and played lots of fun games.  Great way to kick off the new year!
Hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating the holidays, and good luck to those of you who also made New Year's Resolutions!
