simply beautiful.

That's how I'm describing our recent trip to Estes Park, Colorado.  Simply beautiful.
First of all, I need to thank Matt's mom because she treated us, Tara and Scott to this vacation.  It was wonderful.  Thank you :)

From the perfect weather, to the stunning scenery, and the much-needed naps, all-in-all, it was a success in my mind.  Every morning we got up, had a cup of coffee, or two, and a filling breakfast then headed over to Rocky Mountain National Park to hike breath-taking trails.  After, we would head back to our adorable cabin for lunch, and would spend the rest of the afternoons either napping and reading or walking around in the quaint downtown.  We even found a cute little winery and did a tasting one day.
The elk are very plentiful and basically rule the area. And they know it.  We had many encounters with them and it was crazy how close you could get.  Diane kept reminding us that they are to the locals like what deer are to us.  Essentially...just annoying.  Regardless, we were entertained and amazed.  It doesn't take much to grab my attention these days!
Have I already mentioned how beautiful it is out there?  I've never been to Colorado during the fall and I'm sure glad I've witnessed it now.  The aspens are all turning a golden yellow, and as Diane said, "it looks like gold sparkling in the sun".  And it really does.  All the leaves are starting to change and the colors are striking.  Such a majestic place.
One afternoon we decided to eat lunch at a cute little restaurant.  Diane had a friend tell her their soups and salads were wonderful.  After eating there, we can all say this is very true.  The cornbread was to die for.  And as a bonus, the view from the restaurant was amazing.
Anyways, as I have already said, this trip was simply beautiful.  Enjoy the rest of the pictures, which really don't do this gorgeous land any justice.  Can't wait to visit again!

  1. My Aunt and Uncle have a cabin at the base of Long's Peak in Estes Park so I grew up going there in the summer... so beautiful!

P.S. That little restaurant has to be the Baldpate Inn! It's pretty famous!! I have the cornbread recipe from there if you want it :)
